Created by Presidential Decree No. 95/062 on April 24, 1995, the Kombo Itindi Council is a local government body situated in the Ndian Division of the South West Region of Cameroon. Encompassed by a rich maritime channel and vast evergreen mangrove ecosystems within the proposed Ndongere National Park area, our municipality serves as a vital coastal hub connecting diverse communities.
Surface Area: $4,011.04\text{ km}^2$ ($41,104\text{ ha}$)
Total Population: Approximately 26,165 inhabitants
Number of Villages: 32 distinct communities
Administrative Seat: Barracks
Secondary Administrative Center: Ngosso I
Primary Means of Transit: Maritime and water transport
Kombo Itindi Council is home to a rich mosaic of cultures. Our population comprises indigenous Cameroonian groups (such as the Isangele, Oroko, Bayangi, and inhabitants from the North-West Region) alongside vibrant resident communities primarily of Nigerian origin (including Ijaw, Ogoni, and Ibibio peoples). The economy thrives primarily on artisanal fishing, periwinkle harvesting, maritime trade, and local transport.
Guided by our Communal Development Plan (CDP), the council is committed to improving the living standards of all residents through sustainable growth and inclusive governance. Our core development pillars include:
Basic Social Services: Expanding access to clean drinkable water, reliable energy sources, and enhanced educational infrastructure.
Local Economic Empowerment: Modernizing local economic hubs (such as Barracks-Isu, Greater Ngosso, and Water Creek-New Kombo), supporting fish preservation, and empowering youth and women.
Environmental Conservation: Protecting our rich mangrove ecosystems and promoting sustainable resource management.
Good Governance: Fostering transparent public administration and active community participation.
We work hand-in-hand with national ministries and development partners to achieve our goals:
Supervising Ministry: Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development (MINDDEVEL)
Technical & Financial Partner: National Community Driven Development Program (PNDP)
Accompanying Support Organization: MUDEC Group, Buea
